Because Sharing Care and Comfort Goes a Long Way

Orange Ribbon Foundation in Eugene, Oregon is a nonprofit organization that was started by Yvonne, the late daughter of our group’s founder, Tiffany Bell-Alanis. Yvonne was only 16 when she passed away on April 30, 2018, after a year-long battle with cancer and bone marrow transplants. Our foundation was Yvonne’s dream and we are here to make sure that it comes to life.

We make comfort baskets that contain essential items for parents who are uprooted due to their child’s cancer diagnosis and need to travel far distances to the hospital so their child can get treatment. We know that most parents tend to forget things like chargers, Tylenol, pajamas, slippers, and other things that will make their hospital stay a little bit easier. With our comfort baskets, parents can better focus on their child instead of having to figure out and be stressed about what they need to bring.

We also give a gift to the child so they don’t feel left out. Our goal is not to only support oncology and hematology patients and their parents. As we grow, we would like to help all parents who face this kind of struggle and maybe even start a financial assistance program for them. Browse through our site to learn more about how we can help you. Get in touch with us today!

Mission Statement

Our goal is to support pediatric cancer patients and their families through gifts of hope where we provide essential items to these families during extended hospital stays with their child. It is our belief that, a kind gesture can only reach wounds that compassion can help heal.

How Our Foundation Started

The foundation was started by Yvonne. When she was asked to think about what she wanted for her Make a Wish, she told them a foundation. It was something they could not help with, but Yvonne didn’t want to give up on that dream. With the help of her mother, they started piecing together what Yvonne wanted the foundation to be.

First, she thought of comfort baskets. Next, she thought of wanting to help parents. The baskets would contain what parents needed the most while staying at the hospital. Yvonne’s mother told her that the next step is coming up with a name. It took Yvonne a few weeks to find the perfect name for her foundation. Once she did, she was excited to let everyone know that the name of the foundation would be The Orange Ribbon Foundation.

Since Yvonne was battling leukemia and the awareness ribbon is orange, she wanted it to represent her and her battle. Yvonne worked hard raising money for her foundation. She would make headbands with bows, bracelets, bow ties, and duct tape wallets all while being in the hospital for treatment. It was in June 2017 when Yvonne started thinking about her foundation. By May 2018, it came to life.

Get to Know Yvonne

Yvonne, aka “Monkey,” was 15 years old when she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). She has always seen the silver lining during chemo treatments, surgeries, and all the obstacles that she faced. During her treatment time, she always thought of others. Whether it was giving someone else a bracelet she made or collecting little toys and games for her siblings, she had a heart that was so pure.

During her second round of chemo, Yvonne wanted to make a foundation so she could give to others who faced the same obstacles as she did. When brainstorming with her mom, they came up with “parent baskets.” She saw how hard it was just to get essential items for her mom and living so far away and not leaving the hospital were big challenges. Yvonne wanted to make parents like her mother stay just a little more comfortable during a time of stress and worry.

Yvonne sadly passed away on April 30, 2018, before she could give her first basket that was already made and ready to go. She was loving, caring, so kind, spunky, and funny. Most of all, she has shown her love in helping others. Today, her mother is fulfilling Yvonne’s wish. We hope our baskets bring you just a little more comfort, a little less stress, and a little more time to be with your child.
